Going For A Caribbean Cruise

Cruises through the Caribbean are famous and are one of the highest-rated cruises in the world. Here you can expect to find pristine white sandy beaches, crystal clear azure water and fantastically vibrant marine life. The Caribbean is known for some of the best scuba diving sites in the world, with exceptional marine and terrestrial ecosystems. Eight percent of the world’s coral reefs are located in the Caribbean.

Most cruise lines offer two different routes on their Caribbean lines; the eastern route and the western route. Each route focuses on its particular region within the Caribbean, with unique stops along the way. Some ports of call will include Cancun, Mexico’s largest island – Cozumel, St. Thomas, the Cayman Islands, or Ocho Rios or Negril in Jamaica. All the cruise stops in the Caribbean are known for their intrinsic beauty and tropical nature. They are also known for being some of the top tourist attractions, so the prices while stopping at these destinations will be higher than usual. Be prepared for the price difference. Some locations are open to bargaining, so don’t hesitate to negotiate a lower price. Read the signs, some locations have fixed pricing, so haggling with a merchant will just be a frustrating waste of time for you and the vendor.

Packing for the Trip

The climate in the Caribbean can vary, along with its geography. It is a region that enjoys year-round sunshine, so make sure to pack plenty of light, casual clothing. Sun protection in the form of hats, sunglasses and sun block is also important in this region. Because the Caribbean has ‘wet’ seasons, bringing along some rain protective clothing will allow you to remain outdoors all the time.

While most of your time on a cruise can be spent lounging, you may feel that casual attire is all you need. There is a level of formality on cruise ships when it comes to some dining locations and formal venues. You may wish to include a few pieces of formal wear, including a sport jacket and tie for men. With the numerous nightlife spots on board, dancing shoes are also a great idea!

A swimsuit is a necessity on a cruise and you may chose to bring along more than one so you don’t have to change into a damp swimsuit each morning. Packing towels is unnecessary as the ship provides a towel service for their guests. Even though you are vacationing in the tropics, you should bring a sweatshirt or some warmer clothing. The evenings can cool down and on the boat it will be a little chillier out on the ocean at night.

The Caribbean is definitely worth the trip and should be experienced at least once, so enjoy the trip and make sure to bring the sunscreen!
